Welcome to Our New Creative Research Assistants on The ORIGIN Project

Lab4Living are happy to welcome 7 new creative research assistants, who are working on ORIGIN, a research project aiming to support mental health in underrepresented young people through developing and testing an online museum.

This new cohort of research assistants includes Sophie Cochrane-Powell, Jamie Creese, Elizabeth Hopwood, Kerry Lindeque, Chelsie Martin, Shakthi Thyagarajan, and Joseph Winstanley. They will facilitate the storytelling elements of ORIGIN, developing engaging ways to tell diverse, relatable, and representative stories for the online museum. You can find introductions from themselves below:

“Hi everyone! I’m Chelsie. I’m a Film and TV student at Sheffield Hallam University, hoping to bring my expertise in media to Lab4Living to aid this amazing project!”

“Hello everyone! I’m Beth, and I graduated from my journalism degree this year from the University of Sheffield. I love writing, magazine design, and anything else creative! I’m thrilled to be a part of such an impactful and exciting project!”

“Hello! I’m Jamie, an English Literature postgraduate particularly interested in the interdisciplinary fields of medical humanities and animal studies. I’m looking forward to bringing my broader knowledge of narratology to ORIGIN in hopes of contributing to an understanding of the interventional capacities of arts and culture!”

“Hello, I’m Joe and I’m a Peak District folklorist using a range of mediums including model making to bring these stories to life. I’m looking forward to further developing my skills in archival research to design creative narratives that explore humans and their interactions with the world in a fun, modern and accessible way.”

“Hello, I’m Sophie. I have a background in violence prevention, supporting victim-survivors of crime and arts-based healing. I’m looking forward to working with poetry and digital collage to create a digital archive of stories in this role.”

“Hello! I’m Kerry. I’m really excited to bring my background in history, performance, and creative writing to this brilliant project. I can’t wait to find and tell stories with creativity, compassion, and humour, as well as learning all about the process of co-design.”

“Hi, I’m Shakthi! I fell in love with creative storytelling while studying journalism and I feel confident this project will provide endless opportunities to develop this while putting my existing skills to work!”

ORIGIN aims to support underrepresented young people, including LGBTQIA+, ethnic minority, neurodiverse, those who live in the most deprived areas of the UK and those who are currently on NHS waiting lists for mental health support. The study involves a cohort of these underrepresented young people aged 16-24, co-designing an online arts and culture intervention aimed at reducing anxiety and depression. Lab4Living, with the new Creative Research Assistants, will facilitate the co-design elements of this programme, helping to build the young people’s skills in storytelling and archival research.
