Handle [me] With Care: dressing rituals in long-term care within domestic environments

Funded by: Research England

Team: Noémie Soula

Handle [me] With Care is an experimental investigation of the inter-corporeal relationship between a person with reduced mobility and their caregiver during dressing rituals. This artistic research project is part of the 100-years life and Future Home. By using methods of dance and ethnodrama to a better understanding of this highly choreographic care, new insights were generated, and it opened a new perspective on care and care dynamics.

This work also emphasized how creative practices can infiltrate and challenge other disciplines and research ground to generate new knowledge. Employing performative practices within research was found to be a way to give a voice to patients and is enabling an alternative communication with the general audience.
